University of Ibadan is the only university in Nigeria to have make it to the top ten In Africa. Other first generation universities also occupy top positions in the ranking.
University of Ibadan coming eighth and first in Nigeria followed by
University of Nigeria (13th in Africa),
Ahmad Bello University (18th in Africa),
University of Lagos (20th in Africa),
Obafemi Awolowo University (24th in Africa),
University of Ilorin (31st in Africa),
University of Port Harcourt (36th in Africa),
Nnamdi Azikiwe University (42nd in Africa),
University of Calabar (43rd in Africa),
Federal University of Technology (49th in Africa) while
Covenant University (53rd in Africa) is the only private university in the top list.
The institutions are ranked by journals consortium based on the institution research publications and citations from the last five year as well as visibility on the Internet.
