Eyimba Defeats Abia Warriors

Enyimba on Sunday move closer to a record seventh league title as they beat Abia Warriors 1-0 in their Premier League match in Umuahia on Sunday.

The People’s Elephant last won the title in 2010, when they equalled Enugu Rangers’ haul of six league titles. The win brought the Aba side to 68 points with two matches remaining. The closest team to them are Warri Wolves with 62 points. Wolves beat Bayelsa United 4-0 to trail the leaders with six points.

Mfon Udoh’s goal in the 71st minute was all Enyimba needed to beat Warriors to bag three points.

Warriors defended stoutly making it difficult for the Enyimba attackers to have a field day.

Enyimba got the opportunity to go into the lead in the 23rd minute after Andrew Abalogu was hacked down in the Warriors’ penalty area. Captain Chinedu Udoji could not concert the resultant penalty as Warriors’ goalkeeper, Chinedu Anozie, went the right way.

The leaders eventually got their goal in the 71st minute through Udoh who did a solo run before slotting past the keeper.
